10 Bangalore varsity Dalit profs allege ‘caste-based bias’, threaten to quit | Bangalore News

A gaggle of Dalit school members, holding key administrative posts in Bangalore College, wrote to the Vice-Chancellor, threatening to resign alleging caste-based discrimination in appointments to statutory positions and denial of service-related advantages.

In a letter to Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jayakara Shetty on July 2, the ten professors alleged that regardless of having served in administrative roles for a number of years, alongside their instructing duties, they’re being “sidelined” in appointments to statutory positions and are being given solely “supervisory” roles with out ample authority or recognition.

They described this transfer as a “discriminatory coverage” towards Dalit school members. In a communication, The Indian Specific has learnt, the Bangalore College stated, “The college acknowledges that school members serving as Coordinators, Administrators, Particular Officers, Chief Wardens, and Chairs of Examine Centres are performing essential administrative duties, just like the duties dealt with by Division Chairpersons. Their roles have been recognised as ‘important companies’, and they’re equally accountable for the functioning of their respective departments and centres.”

The communication stated, “Nonetheless, in sure departments the place the place of Head has not been formally sanctioned as a result of absence of permitted bylaws, the companies of Coordinating Officers are at present being utilised. The college intends to amend the prevailing bylaws to formalise the appointment of Heads for such departments.”
