On February 8, 2018, Cohen’s legal professional Stephen Ryan wrote a letter to the Federal Election Fee concerning the alleged hush-money fee and reimbursement.
Within the letter, obtained by the Each day Mail, Ryan alleged that “Mr. Cohen used his personal private funds” for the hush-money fee.
“In a non-public transaction in 2016, earlier than the U.S. presidential election, Mr. Cohen used his personal private funds to facilitate a fee of $130,000 to Ms. Stephanie Clifford,” Ryan wrote. “Neither the Trump Group nor the Trump marketing campaign was a celebration to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed Mr. Cohen for the fee instantly or not directly.”
The letter was despatched in response to an FEC probe that was launched after quite a few complaints alleging marketing campaign finance had been filed.
