2,471 Indians rescued from scam centres in southeast Asian countries during 2022-25: Govt data | India News

“Out of 1,089 repatriated Indians from Lao PDR, 145 are from Tamil Nadu, 129 from Maharashtra, 96 from J&Okay, 79 from UP, and 69 from Kerala. Amongst 800 Indians repatriated from Cambodia, 116 are from Kerala, 103 from UP, 95 from Tamil Nadu, 71 every from Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal,” a senior authorities official mentioned, citing the info.

Out of 582 repatriated Indians from Myanmar, the official mentioned 65 are from UP, 61 from Maharashtra, 57 from Gujarat, 48 from Punjab and 34 from Karnataka. “An evaluation of cyber frauds this 12 months revealed that they’re concentrating on the Indian financial system, and the nation faces a lack of round Rs 1,000 crore each month to such crimes,” the official mentioned.

“Out of the 22,145 Indians, 15,828 are in Thailand, 3,566 are in Vietnam, 2,121 are in Cambodia, 387 in Myanmar, and 243 are in Lao PDR. The Indian Specific first reported that greater than 5,000 Indians have been suspected to be trapped in Cambodia after being allegedly held towards their will and compelled to hold out cyber fraud.

“Out of the 22,145 passengers who didn’t return, 7,811 are within the age group of 20-29, 6,682 within the 30-39, 3,204 within the 40-49 class, and 1,631 within the 50-59 bracket,” the official added.

Following the instructions of the MHA, a number of central businesses and state police have registered 178 FIRs and arrested 224 individuals on fees of job fraud, dishonest and others.

A probe has revealed that there are three varieties of main cybercrime frauds working from Southeast Asia: inventory buying and selling/funding scams, digital arrest, and task-based and investment-based scams.
