42 unexploded Pak shells destroyed in J&K’s Poonch | India News

The Military and the Jammu & Kashmir Police Sunday carried out a “managed operation” to securely destroy 42 unexploded Pakistani shells within the border district of Poonch.

These unexploded shells have been destroyed in border areas of Jhullas, Salotri, Dharati and Salani, mentioned an announcement issued Sunday by the Defence Public Relations Officer, Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal.

“These shells, remnants of current cross-border shelling, posed a severe risk to the lives and security of native residents,” he mentioned, including that the operation was carried out with “utmost precision, adhering to all commonplace security protocols to stop any threat to civilian life or property”.

Bomb disposal groups from the Military, in coordination with police, ensured the entire neutralisation of all explosive remnants, the assertion mentioned.

Military engineers have launched a sweeping clearance operation throughout border districts, defusing over 80 unexploded shells up to now 5 days — together with 6 in Pargwal, 19 in Rajouri, 42 in Poonch, and 12 alongside the IB.

In the meantime, Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar Sunday visited the Mendhar subdivision to take inventory of the scenario in areas affected by the cross-border shelling. He promised swift reduction and compensation measures.

Kumar was accompanied by Poonch Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal and different senior district administration officers.

The Divisional Commissioner inspected a number of affected places and spoke with residents. He additionally visited the residence of the household the place a lady misplaced her life because of the shelling.
