504 encroachments yet to be removed from SWD, 40 new encroachments identified: BBMP tells Karnataka HC

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) knowledgeable the Karnataka Excessive Court docket Wednesday that 504 recognized encroachments on the stormwater drains (SWD) are but to be cleared. A standing report on this regard was submitted earlier than a division bench comprising Performing Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty, who have been listening to a batch of PIL petitions on rejuvenation of lakes and upkeep of the stormwater drains.

M. Lokesh, Chief Engineer, SWD, BBMP, in his report said: “As on October 11, 2,052 encroachments have been eliminated and 504 are but to be cleared. 40 new encroachments have been recognized between September 12 and October 11. The method of removing of encroachments in 67 circumstances is pending since totally different courts, together with the Excessive Court docket, have handed interim orders.”

Within the matter of encroachment of 1.17 acre of Subramanyapura lake in South Bangalore, the Karnataka Slum Growth Board informed the Excessive Court docket bench that it has no authority to take away the encroachments made by the slum dwellers as the realm is just not a notified slum.

The Excessive Court docket adjourned the listening to to October 16.
