K’taka govt: No plan to curtail powers of panchayats | Bengaluru

Karnataka dwelling minister Araga Jnanendra on Tuesday clarified that the state authorities has no plans to curtail the powers of panchayat presidents and different members.

Jnanendra on Tuesday met chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and apprised him of the apprehension amongst a piece of panchayat members that their powers could also be seized.

“Responding instantly, the chief minister dismissed the concern saying there was no such proposal to amend the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act,” the house minister stated in an announcement.

“The state authorities is dedicated to strengthening the gram panchayat system and decentralisation of energy,” he stated.
