After Hyderabad incident, DGCA asks SpiceJet to analyse engine oil samples of Q400 fleet

Days after a SpiceJet aircraft had smoke within the cabin, aviation regulator DGCA on Monday directed the airline to analyse engine oil samples from its Q400 fleet to verify for presence of metallic and carbon seal particles.

The watchdog has additionally ordered the provider to hold out inspection of bleed-off valve display screen and housing for proof of oil wetness.

On October 12, SpiceJet aircraft coming from Goa made an emergency touchdown at Hyderabad airport following an incident of smoke within the cabin.

In a press release on Monday, DGCA mentioned it’s investigating the incident and primarily based on the preliminary investigation, there was proof of engine oil in engine bleed-off valve. This led to the oil coming into the plane air con system that resulted in smoke within the cabin.

The plane concerned was Q400 and the airline has a fleet of 14 such operational planes.

The watchdog mentioned SpiceJet has additionally been directed to not ship any engine to Customary Aero-Singapore until the investigation is full.

“DGCA is maintaining an in depth watch on the state of affairs and shall take all acceptable motion to avert any untoward incident,” the assertion mentioned.
