Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed a fourth grey wolf depredation in Grand County on Sunday, in line with the confirmed grey wolf depredation info.

The incident concerned one calf and no declare has been submitted.

CPW defines grey wolf depredation as bodily trauma that ends in harm or dying to a home animal. Sunday’s incident is the fourth confirmed grey wolf depredation in Grand County in April and the sixth separate depredation incident since 10 grey wolves had been launched in Colorado in December 2023.

Colorado’s first confirmed wolf depredation after the discharge occurred on April 2 in Grand County. The second assault occurred 5 days later and 60 miles north in Jackson County. Previous to Sunday’s incident, the final assault was on April 18 in Grand County.

The Center Park Stockgrowers Board requested that CPW officers lethally take away two wolves suspected within the livestock assaults Tuesday. Nevertheless, officers acknowledged that one wolf suspected in current depredations is probably going “denning” and within the breeding course of. Eradicating the male wolf “could be irresponsible administration and probably trigger the den to fail, presumably ensuing within the dying of the presumed pups,” CPW Director Jeff Davis stated in a letter to the board Tuesday.

Amid experiences of livestock depredation, one of many 10 grey wolves reintroduced to Colorado was discovered lifeless in Larimer County on April 18. Preliminary proof reveals the wolf seemingly died of pure causes, officers stated Tuesday.

The strategy to deadly removals will seemingly turn into extra liberal because the wolf inhabitants in Colorado grows, in line with Davis.
