The India Meteorological Department has issued a crimson alert for a number of districts of Kerala because of the heavy rainfall, with the authorities directing the closure of academic institutes on Wednesday, July 17, throughout the state. The district administrations of eight districts have ordered the closure of colleges and faculties of their respective areas amid a crimson alert in Kerala.

The districts the place the vacation has been declared are Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam. This comes after heavy rainfall in these districts brought about waterlogged streets, collapsed energy strains and swelled rivers.

Rain alert for Odisha

In the meantime, the IMD on Wednesday issued a rainfall alert for Odisha, saying that heavy rains will proceed within the state until July 20. Native climate officers stated that heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is predicted in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Koraput on Wednesday.
