Exhibition aims to revive artisanal pottery in India

A collective exhibition that includes seven ceramic artists right here goals to revive the fading artwork type of artisanal pottery and take it to international audiences.

Organised on the British Council as a part of the ‘India/UK Collectively, Season of Tradition‘ programme, the exhibition, ‘Journeys of Clay and Fireplace’, brings collectively Indian and UK artists and humanities organisations to co-develop and collaborate on tasks which discover new futures for the craft in India.

Works by Ela Mukherjee and Shruti Bansal from Delhi, Abhay B Pandit and Neha Kuchadkar from Mumbai, Ok Gukanraj from Chennai, Shitanshu G Maurya from Kolkata and Shirley Bhatnagar from Dehradun make up for one a part of the present.

The second half showcases collaborative works by the Design Innovation and Craft Useful resource Centre, CEPT College from Ahmedabad and British Ceramics Biennale in Gundiyali, Gujarat; Indian Institute of Craft and Design from Jaipur and West Dean School of Arts and Conservation in Baswa, Rajasthan.

The exhibition, a collaboration between the Charles Wallace India Belief and the British Council, additionally explores the fostering of a inventive dialogue between design establishments in India and the UK.

Jonathan Kennedy, Director Arts India, British Council mentioned that the exhibition serves as a platform for offering networks and alternatives for rising artists in India and UK.

“The exhibition explores up to date ceramics and conventional design and brings collectively rising and mid-career Indian artists. It additionally highlights the inventive dialogue between design establishments in India and the UK, which has resulted in modern options that help the revival of artisanal pottery for sustainable livelihoods,” Kennedy informed PTI.

Marking India’s seventy fifth 12 months of independence, the Season of Tradition will see an enormous programme of inventive collaboration, schooling and cultural change happen on-line, and in cities throughout each nations.

“Working with various companions and establishments within the subject of arts, schooling and english, the British Council is creating a programme of cultural exercise which is able to deliver collectively individuals in each nations, increase consciousness round key real-world points, and strengthen and have fun the UK and India’s instructional and cultural ties,” the British Council mentioned in an announcement.

‘Journeys of Clay and Fireplace’ will come to an in depth on November 29.
