English soccer referees’ physique Skilled Sport Match Officers Restricted (PGMOL) on Monday suspended referee David Coote after a video surfaced on social media exhibiting the official allegedly abusing Liverpool and their former coach Jurgen Klopp.
The unverified video reveals an individual alleged to be Coote saying, “Except for having a proper pop at me once I reffed them towards Burnley in lockdown, then he accused me of mendacity after which simply had a proper f*****g pop at me. The video in query appears to discuss with a Premier League sport that Coote refereed between Liverpool and Burnley in July 2020, which led to a 1-1 draw. Klopp publicly criticised Coote after the match, accusing him of not penalising tackles made on Liverpool’s gamers.
“David Coote has been suspended with quick impact pending a full investigation. PGMOL can be making no additional remark till that course of is full,” PGMOL informed Reuters.
Liverpool didn’t instantly reply to a Reuters request for touch upon the matter.
Coote, 42, officiated Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday and has been a match official within the Premier League since 2018.
