The opposition parties together with Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and others have criticised the ‘One Nation, One Election’ invoice, calling it “towards federalism”.

“The federal government is arguing that crores of rupees are being spent in organizing elections and it’s attempting to economize. To conduct a Lok Sabha election, ₹3700 crores is spent, this determine was given by ECI throughout the 2024 LS elections. ₹3,700 crores is 0.02 per cent of the annual price range. To save lots of the 0.02 per cent expenditure of the annual price range, they wish to finish all the federal construction of India and provides extra energy to the ECI,” Congress deputy chief within the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi was quoted by ANI as saying.

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee too opposed the invoice, saying,”It hits the essential construction of the Structure. It’s opposite to Article 83 sub-article 2(1)… Thirdly, the state meeting will rely upon the specified doctrine of the central parliament. At any time when the parliament will dissolve, then all state elections need to be completed. State meeting and state authorities are usually not subordinate to the Parliament and the central authorities.”
