The lacking music wasn’t simply slammed by viewers – lots of the singers themselves shared their disappointment.
In mid-February, Diane Warren, who’s nominated for The Journey from the movie The Six Triple Eight, referred to the change as “irritating.”
She continued: “Everyone loves to listen to the songs. You need to hear these artists sing these songs that have been integral to the films. Music is so necessary to movie, and these songs are essential to the films they’re in.”
Brandi Carlile, who co-wrote By no means Too Late, from the documentary Elton John: By no means Too Late, informed Selection: “I really feel actually unhappy as a result of I don’t know if I’ll ever get an opportunity to carry out on the Oscars once more.
“I can not fathom it, particularly with Elton John. Once I first discovered Elton John, it was within the ’90s, and he was successful an Oscar for The Lion King, and I couldn’t imagine it.
“So to have the chance to carry out with Elton John on the Oscars is a tough factor to not have manifest.”
