Received death threats over views on textbook revision controversy, says Kannada writer Na D’Souza

Kannada novelist and author Na D’Souza, 85, has stated that he acquired two loss of life risk letters after he went public together with his views on the textbook revision controversy. The octogenarian made the remarks throughout a gathering of the Kannada Sahithya Parishat (KSP) held in Shivamogga district Saturday.

D’Souza stated the risk letters asking him to vary his views have been reportedly dispatched from Davangere.

“The letter didn’t have the sender’s title. They informed me to vary my views and ideas and if not, I’d be killed. This isn’t good for the literary world and when writers obtain such threats, it’s worrying. The author can also be a part of the society and has dependents,” he stated.

Stating that he didn’t wish to inform the police and create pointless controversy, the author added that he wished to carry the incident to the discover of the KSP.

D’Souza is understood for works, resembling Dweepa, Bamonn, Kolaga, and Mulugade Olasuligalu, amongst others.

The letters additionally allegedly focused writers resembling GS Siddaramaiah, Ok Marulasiddappa, Nagarajaiah, and music director Hamsalekha, amongst others. They claimed that the textbook revision was carried out to instill ‘nationalist’ sentiment and that writers opposing it should be thrown in a foreign country or killed.

The calls made by indianexpress.com to KSP chief Mahesh Joshi went unanswered.
