The Karnataka Lokayukta police have arrested a senior Bengaluru police officer and his subordinate for allegedly accepting a Rs 2-lakh bribe to research a cybercrime, marking the primary time a senior officer from the cybercrime division has been caught for bribery.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Tanveer S R of the Northeast CEN police station and Assistant Sub-Inspector Krishna Murthy have been arrested on a criticism filed by Madhusudhan B S, a businessman. On February 26, he approached the police station stating that somebody had hacked his web site’s login credentials, falsely portraying it as a fraudulent firm and posting inappropriate messages that prompted monetary loss to his enterprise.

Madhusudhan suspected a former worker, Monish, is likely to be behind the hacking. Whereas he requested the police to arrest Monish, the 2 officers demanded Rs 4 lakh. The businessman alleged that Tanveer and Murthy later settled for Rs 2 lakh as an advance. Suspicious of their intent, he alerted the Lokayukta police, who laid a lure.

“Arrest procedures have been accomplished and additional investigations are ongoing,” an official stated.

Each officers have been charged below part 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
