Amid tariff tensions, Centre sets up helpdesk for stakeholders to navigate trade issues | India News

The Centre on Friday operationalised the ‘International Tariff and Commerce Helpdesk’ to assist stakeholders navigate points, in view of the altering panorama amid tariffs and counter-tariff measures.

“Given the evolving commerce panorama and the introduction of varied tariff and counter-tariff measures, there could also be each new export alternatives and heightened import pressures from particular nations or product sectors,” a press launch by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade stated.

The ministry additionally urged those that had been experiencing such shifts to supply inputs and recommend potential assist measures.

It added that the Division of Commerce and DGFT had been monitoring the newest developments in world commerce, particularly “in relation to tariff modifications, import surges, and export-related challenges”.

“The ‘International Tariff Challenges Helpdesk’ would look into points regarding Import and Export Challenges, Import Surges or Dumping, EXIM Clearance, Logistics or Provide Chain Challenges, Monetary or Banking points, Regulatory or Compliance Points, and Different Points or Solutions,” the ministry stated.

United States President Donald Trump had on Wednesday (April 9) paused reciprocal tariffs on 75 nations, together with India. The federal government had initiated talks relating to a  bilateral commerce settlement with the US, whereas not retaliating to the reciprocal tariffs, which paid off.

Alternatively, the US imposed a steep 125 per cent tariff on China, which had responded with retaliatory measures. This supplies a bonus to India, as a result of companies primarily based in China might need to shift operations to nations with decrease tariff regimes.
