Protester ‘crushed under excavator’, stir against land acquisition for RSP’s new railway line turns violent in Rourkela | India News

A protest towards land acquisition to assemble a railway line for the Rourkela Metal Plant (RSP) turned violent on Saturday, following the loss of life of a protester who was allegedly crushed by an excavator. The deceased was recognized as Ettua Ekka, 40.

The incident sparked violent clashes between the protesting tribals from the realm and the police, resulting in accidents on either side. The injured have been admitted to the Rourkela authorities hospital.

In response to police, the incident passed off at Barkani village whereas the protesters had been attempting to dam the development of machines deployed for work. Officers stated the 40-year-old was crushed when one of many excavators moved ahead.

Rourkela Inspector Basic Brijesh Rai confirmed the loss of life and stated an investigation is underway. “Ample power has been deployed to take care of legislation and order on the protest website. The scenario is beneath management now. We are going to register a case and begin a probe into the loss of life,” Rai advised The Indian Categorical.

Locals have been opposing the land acquisition for the previous a number of months. The protesters allege that the brand new railway line is being constructed with out consulting the affected villages and with out taking ample rehabilitation measures.

Officers from the RSP didn’t reply to calls in search of a remark.
