Singapore-flagged container ship catches fire near Kerala coast; rescue work underway | India News

A Singapore-flagged container ship on its method to Navi Mumbai has caught hearth off the Kerala coast, a defence spokesperson stated in Kochi on Monday.

The defence spokesperson stated in an announcement that the vessel, recognized as M V Wan Hai 503, departed Colombo on June 7 and was slated to succeed in NPC Mumbai on June 10. Round 10.30 am on Monday, the Navy bought formation concerning the underdeck hearth on board the ship.

“INS Surat, scheduled to enter Kochi for IST, has been diverted by WNC at 11 am t present help to the distressed vessel. Moreover, In-dornier sortie is being deliberate from Garuda,” stated the Navy spokesperson.

Official sources at Kerala’s State Catastrophe Administration Authority (SDMA) stated the incident happened 78 nautical miles away from the Beypore coast in Kozhikode district.

“Twenty containers have fallen into the ocean and there have been a number of blasts on the ship. The ship had 22 crew members and 18 of them jumped into the ocean with a rescue boat. The ship has not up to now sunk,’’ stated an official.

The SDMA stated that if the injured crew members had been being dropped at Kerala, the district collectors of Kozhikode and Ernakulam can be requested to make sure remedy for the injured.

WAN HAI 503 had been crusing at a velocity of 14.4 knots and was anticipated to reach in Mumbai on June 10. The vessel (IMO 9294862, MMSI 563812000) is a container ship inbuilt 2005 and crusing beneath the flag of Singapore.

The defence spokesperson stated that out of the 22 crew members, 18 had left the ship on a ship. The crew members are being rescued by the Coast Guard and Indian Navy ships and plane. The vessel is on hearth and adrift.
