The Union Dwelling Ministry on Monday issued a gazette notification, declaring that the Census shall be carried out in 2027.
“In train of the powers conferred by part 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), and in supersession of the notification of the Authorities of India within the Ministry of Dwelling Affairs (Workplace of the Registrar Normal, India) quantity S.O. 1455(E), dated the twenty sixth March, 2019 printed within the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Half II, part 3, sub-section (ii), dated the twenty eighth March, 2019, besides as respects issues performed or omitted to be performed earlier than such supersession, the Central Authorities hereby declares {that a} census of the inhabitants of India shall be taken throughout the yr 2027,” a notification by Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, Registrar Normal and Census Commissioner, mentioned.
The notification said that the reference date for the Census shall be March 1, 2027, aside from the Union Territory of Ladakh, the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. “In respect of the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the reference date shall be 00:00 hours of the first day of October, 2026,” the notification added.
The final Census was held in 2011. The 2027 Census will embrace the primary nationwide caste enumeration since 1931.
A day earlier than issuing the notification, Union Dwelling Minister Amit Shah had on Sunday reviewed the preparation for the forthcoming Census with Union Dwelling Secretary Govind Mohan and different senior officers in North Delhi.
“The census shall be performed in two phases. In part one i.e. Houselisting Operation (HLO), the housing situations, property and facilities of every family shall be collected. Subsequently, in second part i.e. Inhabitants Enumeration (PE), the demographic, socio-economic, cultural and different particulars of each particular person in every family shall be collected. Round 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors and round 1.3 lakh Census functionaries shall be deployed for the train, as per the assertion. “This census is the sixteenth census because the starting and eighth after Independence.
