The Tamil Nadu authorities on Tuesday suspended Further Director Common of Police (ADGP) H M Jayaram, a day after he was taken into custody by the Tiruvallur district police following instructions by the Madras Excessive Courtroom to arrest him.

Jayaram, a senior IPS officer, is accused of abetting the kidnapping of a minor boy by permitting his car for use by a gaggle of people that sought to forcibly separate an inter-caste couple. The boy is the brother of the person who married a lady from a special caste, purportedly regardless of opposition from her household.

The Tamil Nadu Residence Division issued Jayaram’s suspension order on Tuesday, hours after he was questioned for almost six hours on the Thiruvalangadu police station and later moved to the DSP’s workplace in Thiruthani.
