Railway fare hikes to kick in from July 1: 2 paise per km for AC travel, 1 paise per km for non-AC | India News

The Ministry of Railways has hiked fares throughout AC, sleeper and second courses after 5 years. The brand new fares will come into impact from July 1.

Put merely, a passenger travelling 1,000 km in any AC class must pay Rs 20 extra. For these travelling in a sleeper or normal coach of any Mail or Categorical practice, the extra fare shall be Rs 10.

“Nevertheless, any new tickets made by ticket checking workers in trains/at stations on or after 01.07.2025 shall be charged on the revised fee,” mentioned the notification.

Going by the Railways’ projection of passenger kilometres, the hike beginning July 1 might generate an extra income of over Rs 1,100 crore for the remaining interval of the present monetary yr (2025-26). For the entire monetary yr, the extra income generated would have been over Rs 1,450 crore.

The Railways closely subsidises passenger providers. In keeping with a Parliamentary committee report, the suburban providers get well round 30 per cent of their prices and non-AC providers get well 39 per cent. AC journey generates a marginal surplus of three.5 per cent.
