Kashmir Martyrs’ Day Ro: Stalin to Akhilesh to Mamata, Opposition slams BJP over confinement | India News

The chief Ministers of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have been among the many Opposition leaders who on Monday criticised the confinement of J&Ok CM Omar Abdullah and his ministers forward of the observance of Martyrs’ Day on July 13.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee posted on X: “What’s incorrect in visiting the graveyard of martyrs?… What occurred to an elected Chief Minister is unacceptable. Surprising. Shameful.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Ok Stalin, in a submit on X, mentioned that at a time when there’s a rising demand for the restoration of J&Ok’s statehood, the present occasions are a grim reminder of how far issues have deteriorated.

“The elected CM Hon’ble @OmarAbdullah is being positioned underneath home arrest merely for desirous to pay homage to the 1931 martyrs and is pressured to climb partitions to take action. Is that this how an elected Chief Minister needs to be handled?” he requested.

Stalin hit out on the BJP-ruled Centre, saying it was stripping away the rights of elected state governments.

“This isn’t nearly one state or one chief. From Tamil Nadu to Kashmir, the Union BJP Authorities is systematically stripping away the rights of elected State Governments.

Samajwadi Social gathering chief Akhilesh Yadav used poetry to remind the BJP about the potential for it having to sit down within the opposition in future: “In the event you maintain imposing restrictions on each matter like this, then when the regime modifications, inform me your self, which border will you cross to flee?” he mentioned in Hindi on X.

July 13 is commemorated as Martyrs’ Day in J&Ok in tribute to 22 individuals killed by the Dogra military outdoors Srinagar’s central jail in 1931. The L-G administration had dropped the day from the listing of gazetted holidays in 2020.

CPI chief D Raja condemned Abdullah’s detention as insulting. And the J&Ok Congress known as it a “chilling reminder of how far we’ve drifted from democratic values”.
