At SCO meet, Jaishankar takes aim at China’s BRI: ‘Connectivity projects should respect sovereignty’

Connectivity initiatives ought to respect the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of nations, Exterior Affairs minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday stated, in an obvious reference to China’s Belt and Street Initiative (BRI).

He later tweeted: “Represented India on the assembly of SCO Council of Heads of Authorities (CHG) which has simply concluded. Underlined that we want higher connectivity within the SCO area constructed on the centrality of pursuits of Central Asian states.”

Stressing on higher connectivity, Jaishankar stated it can unlock the financial potential of the SCO area, by which Chabahar port and the Worldwide North South Transport Hall may turn out to be enablers. “Connectivity initiatives ought to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states and respect worldwide legislation,” he stated.
