In accordance with the minister, 70 per cent of the income loss as a result of measure shall be borne by the states. “The Centre isn’t telling us the extent of loss,” he mentioned, including that the transfer would have a long-term influence on the funds of the state governments and “shall be a blow for the autonomy of states”.

“How can any state authorities govern with autonomy? It will likely be a state authorities present solely in title and shall be extra of a glorified municipality,” he added.

Gowda additional mentioned the choice to cut back the variety of GST slabs was made unilaterally, with out consulting the states. Not offering compensation to states would show to be a deadly blow to the Union and the GST system itself, the minister added.
