Two accused in Haleyangadi riots in Mangaluru held after 26 years in Karnataka | Bangalore News

The Mangaluru metropolis police have arrested two individuals accused of collaborating in a communal riot 26 years in the past.

The accused have been recognized as Chandrahass Keshav Shetty, 59, and Leeladhar, 52. Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH, Police Commissioner, Mangaluru metropolis, introduced the arrest of the 2 accused on Wednesday.

Based on the police, a riot had damaged out at Haleyangadi inside Mulki police limits on December 31, 1998. The police had then registered a case underneath a number of sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Amongst a number of accused, Leeladhar and Shetty had evaded arrest, prompting investigators to file a chargesheet noting their disappearance. The court docket subsequently declared it a long-pending case (LPC).

Lately, the police acquired intelligence that Leeladhar had returned from overseas and was residing in a rented lodging at Parkikere village. The Mulki police then arrested him and secured his judicial custody.

Equally, Chandrahass Keshav Shetty, who had fled to Dubai, was arrested at Mumbai airport on August 30 and can be at present in judicial custody.

The police have additionally booked them underneath sections 208 (Non-attendance in obedience to an order from a public servant) and 209 (non-appearance in response to a proclamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
