A 57-year-old retired girl in Bengaluru has misplaced Rs 3.75 crore to scammers who used an AI-generated deepfake video of non secular chief Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev to advertise pretend funding alternatives, the police mentioned on Thursday.

The fraudster operated via a number of UK-based cellphone numbers and added the lady to a WhatsApp group with roughly 100 members. She was then directed to numerous web sites and instructed to obtain the Mirrox inventory buying and selling app.

Manipulative methods

Waleed performed buying and selling tutorials through Zoom, later introducing one other confederate, Michael C, instead teacher. The scammers employed psychological techniques, with group members commonly sharing fabricated earnings and screenshots of supposed account credit to construct belief and legitimacy, in keeping with the FIR.

The girl realised that she had been cheated solely when she tried to withdraw her earnings. The scammers demanded further funds for processing charges and taxes, elevating her suspicions. When she refused to pay these further prices, the fraudsters ceased all communication.

Because the girl filed her grievance on Tuesday, practically 5 months after the fraud concluded, a police officer mentioned that the restoration of the misplaced cash can be difficult. The officer added that the authorities had been coordinating with banks to freeze the fraudsters’ accounts.
