The world’s largest uncut diamond weighing 7,525 carats (1.505 kg/3 lbs and 5.09 oz) has been unearthed in Zambia and subsequently made it to report books. Found by geologists Manas Banerjee and Richard Kapeta and their crew in July 2021, the emerald was traced to the Kagem mine situated in Zambia’s Copperbelt province, in line with Guinness World Data.
Given the ‘horn’ on prime of the emerald, it has been named Chipembele which implies rhino in native indigenous dialect of the Bemba individuals of Zambia.
Beforehand too, two large emeralds have been discovered on the similar website — Insofu, or “elephant”, found in 2010 and Inkalamu, or “lion”, which was present in 2018. Whereas Insofu weighed 6,225 carats (1.245 kg/2 lbs and 11.92 oz), Inkalamu is available in third at 5,655 carats (1.131 kg/2 lbs and seven.89 oz), not fairly rivalling the scale of Chipembele.
Based on Guinness World Data, all of those monumental gems have been discovered at Kagem, an emerald mine owned by Gemfields in partnership with the Zambian authorities’s Industrial Improvement Company.

Guinness website reported that “Chipembele fashioned beneath close to good circumstances, permitting the mix of the weather to crystallise into massive, distinct hexagonal crystal buildings with glassy surfaces”.
Chipembele was acquired in November 2021 at Gemfields’ high-quality emerald public sale with a portion of the sale proceeds donated to the North Luangwa Conservation Programme in Zambia, which aids black rhinoceros dialog efforts.
It was verified by Guinness on April 22, 2022.
