Two Russian warplanes “dangerously” intercepted an unarmed RAF spy airplane over the Black Sea final month, the Ministry of Defence has mentioned on Wednesday.
A Russian Su-35 fighter approached the surveillance plane – shut sufficient to set off its emergency methods – whereas a Su-27 jet carried out six passes in entrance of it.
The MoD mentioned the Rivet Joint had been conducting a routine worldwide flight to help in securing Nato’s japanese flank.
BBC Safety Correspondent Frank Gardner described the incident as “actually severe”, pointing to the potential for escalation amid tensions between Russia and Nato.
