Former India captain Sourav Ganguly who was celebrating his 54th birthday on Wednesday, was inducted into the Worldwide Cricket Council (ICC) Corridor of Fame on the identical day. Ganguly himself broke the information on his X account, thanking ICC and chairman Jay Shah.

“Thanks ICC and Chairman Jay shah @JayShah for inducting me within the corridor of fame .. it’s an enormous honour ..One of many 10 Indians to be inducted within the corridor of fame ever .. Superb to be part of some nice names .. @bcci,” Ganguly posted.

Ganguly is the twelfth Indian total and the tenth males’s cricketer to have obtained this honour. The opposite 9 males’s gamers are Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, Vinoo Mankad, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Sunil Gavaskar and Bishan Singh Bedi.

The ICC Corridor of Fame was launched in January 2009 as a part of the ICC’s centenary celebrations and has since celebrated the best gamers to have graced the sport.

Ganguly took over the captaincy throughout some of the turbulent phases in Indian cricket. The left-handed batter reworked the crew’s mindset, instilling aggression, self-belief and the arrogance to compete abroad.

Referred to as the “God of Offside” for his elegant strokeplay via the duvet area, Ganguly amassed 18,575 worldwide runs in 424 matches, together with 38 centuries and 107 half-centuries. He scored 7,212 runs in 113 Checks and 11,363 runs in 311 One-Day Internationals, making him one among India’s biggest batters throughout codecs.

As captain, Ganguly led India in 196 worldwide matches, successful 97. His tenure featured a number of landmark achievements, together with the well-known 2001 Border-Gavaskar Trophy conquer Steve Waugh’s all-conquering Australia, India’s maiden Check collection victory in Pakistan in 2004, and appearances within the finals of the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy and the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup.
