Heavy rains continued to lash Idukki district in Kerala on Saturday with minor landslides being reported from Munnar-Vattavada highway within the hilly area the place a tempo traveller and its driver had been washed away, police stated.
Vadakara resident Roopesh (45) was unable to flee from his car when the landslide hit the Munnar-Vattavada highway, police stated.
“The tempo traveller was a part of a three-vehicle tour group from Vadakara. All different autos and passengers managed to flee however he’s suspected to have been trapped contained in the car,” Munnar police informed PTI.
Police stated they’ve situated the car some 700 metres downhill, a area which is frequented by wild elephants.
In the meantime, Idukki District Collector Sheeba George stated the rescue operation has been halted for the evening and can resume at 6 am on Sunday.
The operation was stopped on account of lack of sunshine and heavy rains, she added.
The weatherman had issued Orange alert for Idukki right this moment and a Yellow alert for the subsequent two days indicating heavy rains.
