Bommai announces ₹15 lakh for leopard attack victims’ kin | Bengaluru

Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday introduced a compensation of ₹15 lakh every to the households of two individuals killed in leopard assaults in Mysuru in previous couple of weeks.

A 22-year-old girl, Meghana, was killed within the yard of her home by a leopard at Kebbegundi village in T Narasipura taluk of Mysuru district on Thursday.On October 31, a 21-year-old man, Manjunath, was mauled to loss of life by a leopard in T Narsipura Taluk’s ML Hundi village. Manjunath was attacked by the leopard when he and his associates had been getting back from a temple.

Speaking to the reporters, CM Bommai stated that the compensation is just like the one paid to the victims of untamed elephant assaults. He stated that forest division has taken the matter very critically and efforts are being made to catch the massive cat alive and launch it within the forests.

“The households of these killed in leopard assaults will probably be supplied a compensation of ₹15 lakh. The ex-gratia is just like the one meant for the kin of these killed by wild elephants,” Bommai stated.

“Now we have taken the leopard assaults on human beings critically, particularly in Bengaluru and Mysuru. The forest officers have laid traps for the wild animals. I’ve advised them to catch the animals alive and launch within the forest,” Bommai stated.

The Karnataka forest division had issued a shoot-at-sight order in opposition to a leopard after the animal killed a girl in Mysuru, officers aware of the matter stated on Friday.

“The senior forest officers on the state degree have given us the permission to shoot the leopard because the animal killed two individuals in 30 days. Now we have launched an operation to catch the leopard,” stated chief conservator of forests Dr Malathi Priya.

Earlier, an alert was additionally sounded in Kengeri, Kumbalagodu, Devanahalli and surrounding localities of Bengaluru after locals noticed 4 leopards within the space. A search is underway in each the cities and the authorities have requested the individuals to take care of warning. On Thursday, the authorities had additionally discovered the carcass of a deer killed by a leopard in Kodipalya close to Kanakapura on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

In Devanahalli, a leopard was seen close to Chikkajala on the premises of a personal firm. A group of 5 officers from the Karnataka forest division had searched the realm however the animal remained untraceable.
