Pentagon splits $9 bn cloud contract among Google, Amazon, Oracle and Microsoft

The Pentagon awarded $9 billion value of cloud computing contracts to Alphabet Inc’s Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Oracle on Wednesday.

The Joint Warfighting Cloud Functionality (JWCC) is the multi-cloud successor to the Joint Enterprise Protection Infrastructure (JEDI), which was an IT modernization venture to construct a big, frequent industrial cloud for the Division of Protection.

The separate contracts, which carry a notional prime line of $9 billion, run till 2028 and can present the Division of Protection with enterprise-wide, globally obtainable cloud companies throughout all safety domains and classification ranges, the contract announcement stated.

U.S. Navy Commander Jessica McNulty, a Division of Protection spokesperson, stated in a press release the JWCC was a multiple-award procurement composed of 4 contracts with a shared ceiling of $9 billion.

The transfer comes months after the Pentagon had delayed its choice to award an enterprise-wide JWCC contract.

The Pentagon tried to maneuver to the cloud a number of years in the past utilizing the JEDI idea, however the proposal died after litigation stopped the procurement course of.
