NEW DELHI: The Worldwide Civil Aviation Group (ICAO) on Tuesday stated {that a} group that visited India between November 9 and November 16 made business visits to confirm the effectiveness of the nation’s civil aviation authority’s security oversight, however harassed that it didn’t audit any airline.

The assertion comes in opposition to the backdrop of a declare by low-cost service SpiceJet on December 5 that claimed a go to to its head workplace by a visiting ICAO group as an ‘exhaustive audit’.

In its assertion final week, the airline stated: “SpiceJet operations, security processes and techniques have been discovered to be so as following an exhaustive audit carried out by the Worldwide Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The excellent audit by ICAO firmly establishes SpiceJet’s credentials.”

The ICAO responded by way of an announcement put out on Twitter by its communications officer William Raillant-Clark, who didn’t identify SpiceJet.

“ICAO’s Common Security Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) group carried out an ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) to India from 9 to 16 November 2022. The target of an ICVM is to validate progress in addressing the findings from earlier USOAP actions,” Raillant-Clark wrote.

“As a part of an ICVM, ICAO groups conduct business visits to confirm the effectiveness of the civil aviation authority’s security oversight. This can embrace visits to a number of operators. ICAO needs to make clear that visits to operators aren’t audits or inspections in any respect,” he harassed.

SpiceJet has not but responded to the ICAO’s clarification.

In July SpiceJet providers have been capped at half its accepted schedule by India’s aviation regulator Directorate Basic of Civil Aviation after a string of air security incidents in the summertime. The regulator additionally put the service below enhanced surveillance comprising audits and security checks.

The restrictions have been relaxed in October when DGCA accepted SpiceJet’s winter schedule of three,193 departures per week, ranging from October 30 until March 25. This was 6.6% larger than the two,995 departures cleared within the winter of 2021

The ICAO group’s go to to India, based on the civil aviation ministry, was to conduct an audit of the aviation regulator DGCA in areas together with laws, organisation, private licensing, operations, airworthiness and aerodrome.

DGCA officers later stated India’s efficient implementation rating elevated to 85.49% following the recent audit and that its rank had improved to 48.

In accordance with the ICAO web site, the aviation company just isn’t a global aviation regulator. “… simply as Interpol just isn’t a global police drive, we can not arbitrarily shut or prohibit a rustic’s airspace, shut down routes, or condemn airports or airways for poor security efficiency or customer support.”
