B’luru man held for threatening to bomb airport | Bengaluru

Bengaluru police on Thursday arrested a 20-year-old engineering scholar for his tweet about bombing the Kempegowda Worldwide Airport (KIA), officers mentioned on Friday.

The accused, Vaibhav Ganesh, is a resident of Kudlu Gate within the southern a part of Bengaluru and a third-year engineering scholar, police mentioned. His mother and father are working in IT firms within the metropolis.

On December 10, the accused, from his account @futureftsufjan, wrote on Twitter: “I’ll bomb the blr airport j to allow them to rebuild one nearer to the town”. Whereas the tweet was later deleted, it garnered consideration.

Based mostly on the grievance of the airport terminal supervisor, the Kempegowda Airport Police Station on December 12, registered a case underneath sections 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and 507 (legal intimidation by an nameless communication) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police mentioned.

Following the grievance, the North East Division police shaped a particular crew to nab the accused. Together with the cyber crime police, they launched a probe and zeroed in on Vaibhav.

The police seized the cell phone of the accused from which he had tweeted in regards to the bombing. Throughout interrogation, he instructed the police that he was discovering it tough to journey between his residence and the airport, because it was far and that he tweeted out of frustration, the police mentioned.

In the meantime, Anoop A Shetty, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) of Bengaluru’s northeast division, requested individuals to chorus from making such threats. “A scholar has been booked for making a hoax bomb risk to KIA. BOMB THREAT isn’t a joke. Please chorus from making such threats,” he tweeted.

The Bengaluru airport is positioned in Devanahalli, roughly 35 kilometres from the centre of the town.
