University of Northern Colorado President’s son killed in avalanche

The son of College of Northern Colorado President Andy Feinstein died Saturday in an avalanche close to Breckenridge.

A person died after he was caught in an avalanche Saturday whereas backcountry snowboarding along with his father close to Breckenridge, in line with Summit County Rescue Group, and a college spokesperson confirmed to the Greeley Tribune that Feinstein and his son, Nick Feinstein, 22, had been the skiers concerned.

In an interview with the Greeley Tribune, Andy Feinstein mentioned he was buried over his head by the avalanche and didn’t understand how he survived.

Nick Feinstein was a graduate of Greeley Central Excessive College and a senior at Penn State College. He and his dad and mom had been avid climbers, they usually had made a pact to hike up all of Colorado’s mountain peaks greater than 14,000 toes above sea degree.

As of final summer time, Andy Feinstein had climbed 42 of the 58 mountains, his mom Kerry Feinstein climbed 26 and Nick Feinstein climbed 25.

“I can be climbing those he didn’t climb,” Andy Feinstein mentioned within the interview.

The household will host a public celebration of Nick’s life at 2 p.m. Jan. 14 within the Campus Commons Multipurpose Room on the UNC campus. In lieu of flowers, the household asks for donations in Nick’s identify to a corporation referred to as Colorado Fourteeners Initiative at www.14ers.org.

The nonprofit relies in Golden and protects and preserves the pure integrity of Colorado’s 54 14,000-foot peaks by stewardship and public training.
