As many as 29 individuals have been trapped following an avalanche in Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak in Uttarakhand. Speedy reduction operations are presently underway to rescue these trapped, all of whom are trainees on the Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi. In accordance with Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar, quoted by ANI, eight of the trainees have been rescued safely.

Tweeting concerning the incident, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated, “Speedy reduction and rescue operations are being carried out by the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, Military and ITBP personnel together with the crew of NIM to rescue the trainees trapped within the avalanche in Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak on the earliest.”

Expressing grief on the incident Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that he had spoken to the Uttarakhand CM and took inventory of the state of affairs. “I’ve instructed the IAF to mount the rescue and reduction ops. Praying for everybody’s security and well-being,” he tweeted.

Deeply anguished by the lack of valuable lives on account of landslide which has struck the mountaineering expedition carried out by the Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi. My condolences to the bereaved households who’ve misplaced their family members. Okay 1/2
