From Byjus to Netflix: Cyberabad cops bust India’s ‘biggest’ data theft | Latest News India

In what could be referred to as as the largest information theft, the Cyberabad Police in Hyderabad has stated it arrested an individual who was allegedly concerned in stealing, holding and promoting private and confidential information of 66.9 crore people and organisations belonging to 24 states and eight metropolitan cities.


Vinay Bhardwaj, the police said, was found possessing data of students of edu-tech organisations such as Byjus and Vedantu.

“The accused who was arrested on Friday was discovered promoting private and confidential information of about 66.9 crore people and organisations maintained in 104 classes,” Cyberabad Police stated.

Some particulars of information theft

> A number of the essential information held by the accused consists of the information of defence personnel, authorities workers, PAN card holders, information of Lessons 9, 10, 11 and 12 college students, senior residents.

> He additionally held information of Delhi electrical energy shoppers, D-MAT account holders, cellular numbers of varied people, NEET college students, excessive web value people, insurance coverage holders, bank card and debit card holders amongst others, the discharge stated.

> The accused was working by way of an internet site ‘InspireWebz’ in Faridabad, Haryana, and promoting database to purchasers by way of cloud drive hyperlinks.

> The police seized two cellphones and two laptops and information of 135 classes containing delicate info of presidency, personal organisations and people.

Madhya Pradesh – 4.50 crore

Bihar – 1 crore

Kerala – 1.57 crore

Delhi – 2.70 crore

Haryana – 1 crore

In the same case, final month, the Cyberabad Police in Telangana had busted a gang concerned within the information theft and sale of delicate info of presidency and essential organisations. The arrested seven members of the gang allegedly stole particulars of two.55 lakh defence personnel and 16.8 crore residents of India.
