Wrestlers file police complaint against WFI president Brij Bhushan, accusing him of sexual harassment

Seven girl wrestlers have filed a police grievance towards BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment. The police grievance was filed on Friday with the Connaught Place Police Station in New Delhi, it’s learnt.

A grievance has been filed with Delhi Fee for Girls, too, with its head Swati Maliwal saying that ‘a number of ladies together with a minor have alleged that the accused particular person has indulged within the crime of sexual harassment towards them throughout his tenure on the helm of Wrestling Federation of India’. In her letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Maliwal demanded that an FIR be filed towards Brij Bhushan.

Demanding motion towards Brij Bhushan, the wrestlers are additionally set to renew their sit-down protest towards him at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday.

Confirming the event, Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia instructed ANI: “Sure, completely (the grievance has been filed) – at Connaught Place Police Station.”

One other wrestler added: “Now we have taken this step as there was no motion taken since we lodged our protest with the sports activities ministry,” a wrestler mentioned. “We are actually ready for the police to take additional motion.”

A senior police officer confirmed that they’ve acquired a grievance and added that they’ve begun their enquiry earlier than submitting an FIR. “Now we have acquired a grievance at Connaught Place police station and are conducting enquiry earlier than lodging FIR. Applicable authorized motion could be taken,” a senior police officer mentioned.

Bajrang, Vinesh Phogat and several other main wrestlers from the nation have expressed their unhappiness that the findings of the government-appointed Oversight Committee haven’t been made public but.

Boxing legend MC Mary Kom is the pinnacle of the committee that was arrange on January 23 to probe the allegations levelled towards Brij Bhushan by the wrestlers. The committee was given a one-month deadline however its findings haven’t been made public but though the report has been submitted.

Aside from Mary Kom, the opposite members of the Oversight Committee are Olympic medallist-wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, former badminton participant and Mission Olympic Cell member Trupti Murgunde, former CEO of the Goal Olympic Podium Scheme Rajesh Rajagopalan, and former Sports activities Authority of India government director (groups) Radhica Sreeman.

Earlier this month, Vinesh had mentioned the wrestlers have been contemplating authorized motion towards the WFI chief. “Now we have misplaced religion within the committee,” Vinesh had instructed The Indian Categorical earlier this month. “We acquired some assurances from the federal government however they weren’t fulfilled too. We have no idea the standing of the report filed by the committee as properly.”
