There have been many issues that have been paused through the pandemic, and the well-known Durga Puja carnival of West Bengal was amongst them. This yr — after a hiatus of two years — it made a flamboyant comeback with dance, music, tight safety and a splash of tradition and color.

On Saturday, October 8, award-winning idols from 95 prime Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata have been paraded at a grand carnival held on the well-known Crimson Highway within the metropolis amid tight safety.
The tableaux made a vibrant splash, and the puja committees showcased the good craftsmanship earlier than West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, representatives of UNESCO and diplomats of various nations.

Many theme-based crowd-puller idols like Suruchi Sangha, Chetla Agrani, Dumdum Park Tarun Dal and Behala Natun Dal showcased their artworks. All of the 95 taking part puja committees are recipients of the state-sponsored ‘Biswa Bangla’ award.
The programme began at 4.30 pm and went on until 9.15 pm.
The carnival has been organised by the state authorities since 2016, apart from the final two years on account of the pandemic. In December 2021, the most important pageant in West Bengal and among the many Bengali neighborhood in India and around the globe obtained a heritage tag by the UN, which added ‘Durga Puja in Kolkata’ to the ‘Consultant Record of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’ listing.
