Air India on Friday diverted 11 flights and returned 5 to their origin after Iran closed its airspace in response to an Israeli strike on its nuclear amenities. In keeping with flight-tracking platform Flightradar24, the Iranian airspace is now utterly empty.
Among the many flights affected was an Air India flight from Mumbai to London, which needed to make a mid-air return. AI129 departed from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Worldwide Airport (CSMIA) on Friday morning however turned again midway by and returned to Mumbai, in line with real-time knowledge from Flightradar24.
CSMIA authorities confirmed the diversion. “This was undertaken as a precaution due to the Iranian airspace closure,” a CSMIA spokesperson stated.
Air India stated it’s diverting flights and returning some to origin “as a result of rising scenario in Iran, the following closure of its airspace and in view of the security of our passengers”.
Three flights are being diverted to Jeddah and Vienna every, two every to Sharjah and Frankfurt, and one to Mumbai. One other two flights are returning to Mumbai and three to Delhi.
“We remorse the inconvenience brought on to our passengers on account of this unexpected disruption and are making each effort to attenuate it, together with offering lodging for passengers. Refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling can be being provided to visitors who go for it. Different preparations are being made to fly passengers to their locations,” Air India stated.
