Lilongwe, Malawi:
A navy plane carrying Malawi’s vp Saulos Chilima has been reported lacking after it did not make a touchdown Monday morning, the federal government stated.
“All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the plane because it went off the radar have failed so far,” the federal government stated in an announcement.
The aircraft, which took off simply after 9:00 am native time (0700 GMT), was carrying 51-year-old Chilima and 9 others.
President Lazarus Chakwera has ordered regional and nationwide forces to conduct an “rapid search and rescue operation to find the whereabouts of the plane”, the assertion stated.
Chakwera, who was because of journey to the Bahamas for a working go to, has since cancelled his journey.
In 2022, Chilima was stripped of his powers when he was arrested and charged with graft over a bribery scandal involving a British-Malawian businessman.
Final month, a Malawian courtroom dropped the fees after Chilima attended a number of courtroom appearances.
