The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested an Al Qaeda operative from Ramban district within the Union Territory, officers stated.
The police recognized the arrested accused as Amiruddin Khan, son of Mostafa Khan, a resident of Mashita Haora in West Bengal. A Chinese language grenade has been recovered from him. Sources stated the accused was hiding within the space below the garb of a non secular scholar.
An FIR has been registered at Ramban police station below sections of the Arms Act, part 4 of the Explosives Act and sections 13 and 20 (member of terrorist gang or organisation) of the Illegal Actions (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The police stated investigation is underway.
Two months earlier, safety forces killed two militants owing allegiance to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an affiliate of Al Qaeda, in an encounter in Anantnag district.
