Arizona Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs (D) and Maricopa County have requested a courtroom to challenge sanctions towards Kari Lake, the Republican who misplaced to Hobbs final month and refuses to just accept the election outcomes.

The request Hobbs filed within the Maricopa County Superior Court docket on Monday comes two days after it dominated towards Lake’s effort to reverse the election outcomes, saying there isn’t a “clear and convincing proof” of malfeasance that may have impacted the result of the state’s gubernatorial race.

Now, Hobbs and county officers are requesting that Lake and her authorized workforce be ordered to pay $25,050 to cowl a number of the legal professional charges Hobbs and the county incurred due to Lake’s lawsuit. The request notes that earlier than a single vote was counted, Lake “publicly said that she would settle for the outcomes of the gubernatorial election provided that she had been the successful candidate.” She made good on that promise, the submitting says, and dragged Hobbs and the county right into a “frivolous pursuit.”

Lake’s lawsuit was an entire misuse of the state’s judicial system, the submitting argued.

“Courts are established by Arizona’s Structure and statutes to resolve precise disputes between events,” the plaintiffs wrote. “They don’t exist in order that candidates for political workplace can try and make political statements and fundraise. And so they shouldn’t be used to harass political opponents and sow fully unfounded doubts in regards to the integrity of elections. All of these issues occurred on this matter.”

Although Hobbs is simply days away from being sworn in, Lake has nonetheless not conceded the election ― which she misplaced by greater than 17,000 votes ― and says she plans to attraction the newest ruling towards her.

“My Election Case supplied the world with proof that proves our elections are run outdoors of the legislation,” she tweeted on Christmas Eve. “This Choose didn’t rule in our favor. Nonetheless, for the sake of restoring religion and honesty in our elections, I’ll attraction his ruling.”

Lake’s legal professional didn’t instantly return requests for remark.
