The Congress on Monday focused the Central authorities and requested if there was a “main lapse” within the probe into the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist assault that killed 26 civilians, principally vacationers.

“Main lapse in Pahalgam terror assault probe? Quickly after the Pahalgam assault, the Modi authorities rapidly launched sketches of three alleged terrorists. However now, in keeping with a report by The Indian Categorical, not one of the people in these sketches have been concerned within the assault,” the social gathering mentioned in a submit on its official X account.

The Indian Categorical on Monday reported that the arrest of two Kashmiri locals for allegedly harbouring the terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam assault has led the Nationwide Investigation Company (NIA) to conclude that every one three attackers have been from Pakistan.

The breakthrough is a departure from what was beforehand believed in regards to the identities of the attackers. Two days after the Pahalgam assault, the J&Okay Police had launched three sketches — of Pakistan nationals Hashim Musa and Ali Bhai alias Talha, and Kashmir resident Adil Hussain Thoker. Sources in Central companies now say the three males within the sketches usually are not the Pahalgam attackers.

“In reality, the sketches have been reportedly primarily based on a photograph recovered from the telephone of a terrorist named Junaid, who was killed on 4 December 2024—months earlier than the assault even occurred,” the Congress submit mentioned.

This, the social gathering mentioned, “raises severe questions”, together with why there was “such negligence in investigating a brutal terrorist assault”.

“Have been these pretend sketches a part of a headline administration technique by the Modi authorities—extra about optics than actual motion?” the social gathering wrote. “How have been these sketches launched with out correct verification? Was there exterior stress on the police to behave in haste?”.
