LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A big UPS cargo aircraft with three folks aboard crashed Tuesday whereas taking off from an airport in Louisville, Kentucky, igniting an explosion and big hearth that left a thick plume of black smoke over the world.
The aircraft crashed about 5:15 p.m. because it was departing for Honolulu from Louisville’s Muhammad Ali Worldwide Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration stated.
Accidents have been reported, the Louisville Metro Police Division stated in a social media publish.
“My understanding is that there have been about 280,000 gallons of gas on the aircraft, and so that’s excessive cause for concern in so many various methods,” Mayor Craig Greenberg informed WLKY-TV.
UPS’s largest package deal dealing with facility is in Louisville. The hub employs hundreds of employees, has 300 every day flights and types greater than 400,000 packages an hour.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 airplane owned by UPS was manufactured in 1991.
A shelter-in-place order was prolonged to all areas north of the airport to the Ohio River.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear stated in a publish on X that info could be shared because it was obtainable.
“Please pray for the pilots, crew and everybody affected,” Beshear stated.
