Auto drivers in Bengaluru protest against Karnataka govt. Here is why | Bengaluru

The auto drivers in Bengaluru held a protest in opposition to the transport division on Thursday for granting permission to bike taxis and e-bike providers in Bengaluru. The drivers from throughout the town raised slogans in opposition to the federal government and held a rally from KSR Bengaluru station to Freedom Park within the metropolis.

The auto unions in Bengaluru had earlier demanded the federal government to ban the bike taxi providers that use private two-wheelers with white registration plates. The drivers additionally complained that the unauthorized bike taxis have daunted their livelihood.

In the meantime on December 6, the Karnataka authorities additionally permitted Bounce and Blu Sensible to function e-bike taxi providers in Bengaluru below the Electrical Bike Taxi Scheme by issuing them licenses to make sure higher final mile connectivity for commuters. The choice of the federal government led the auto unions within the metropolis to name for a protest on Thursday.

Lately, the Karnataka transport division additionally framed new auto fares for app-based aggregators like Ola, Uber and Rapido. The federal government ordered the aggregators to gather 5% of comfort price on authorities capped auto fares. A further 5% fare shall be relevant as GST.

In November 2021, the Karnataka authorities had raised the meter fares of auto drivers within the state. The value was elevated to Rs. 30 from Rs. 25 for the primary two kilometers and base value per each kilometer was elevated to ₹15 rupees from ₹13. The present mounted service cost shall be relevant on these auto fares.
