A black bear bit a person who was stress-free in a hammock at a Colorado campground Saturday night time, in response to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

The bear wandered as much as the person as he lay within the hammock at a campground within the Purgatoire River bottoms close to Trinidad, the wildlife company stated in a information launch Sunday. The assault was reported at about 10 p.m.

The person, who has not been publicly recognized, informed officers he was within the hammock when he heard a rustling noise, turned on his headlamp and found a bear beside him. The black bear bit the person on the higher proper arm after which turned and walked away, in response to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

The person suffered a 2- to 3-inch chew. Wildlife officers stated Sunday they’re looking for the bear and have set traps to attempt to seize the animal. The company’s coverage is to kill any bear that assaults a human, and the bear shall be killed whether it is captured.

The person informed officers he didn’t have any meals or different gadgets which may have attracted the bear to the hammock.

“Bear assaults are uncommon and we take them very severely,” stated Mike Brown, space wildlife supervisor for the area. “We’re doing all the pieces we will to find this bear. And we proceed to research the incident. Fortunately, the sufferer’s damage seems to be comparatively minor.”

The person was taken to a hospital for remedy.

That is the third reported bear assault within the state this 12 months, in response to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. In July, a bear attacked and severely injured a shepherd in a backcountry camp about 23 miles northeast of Durango — that bear was tracked down and killed.
