‘BRICS remains a powerful force for global good’: PM Narendra Modi | India News

The BRICS stays a robust drive for financial cooperation and international good, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned on Sunday as a number of prime leaders of the member nations of the grouping converged on this seaside Brazilian metropolis to carry summit talks.

Chinese language President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin skipped the summit, being hosted by Brazil in its capability as the present chair of the influential grouping.

The BRICS has emerged as an influential grouping because it brings collectively 11 main rising economies of the world, representing round 49.5 per cent of the worldwide inhabitants, round 40 per cent of the worldwide GDP and round 26 per cent of the worldwide commerce.

BRICS, initially comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, expanded in 2024 to incorporate Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, with Indonesia becoming a member of in 2025.

Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro final evening on the fourth leg of his five-nation tour. He has already visited Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina.

The motto of the Brazilian presidency of BRICS is “Strengthening World South Cooperation for Extra Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”.

The summit will culminate in two high-level declarations on financing the local weather change regime and the governance of synthetic intelligence.

Enhancing using nationwide currencies in settling intra-BRICS commerce might also determine within the discussions on the summit.

India will assume the presidency of BRICS subsequent 12 months.
