Fireplace crews gained 60% containment on the Bucktail fireplace burning on 7,202 acres northeast of Nucla in Montrose County, officers stated in an replace Sunday.
Rain helped tamp down the hearth Saturday, permitting firefighters to extend containment from 10% Saturday to 60% Sunday, U.S. Forest Service officers stated.
The hearth sparked on Aug. 1 and is burning within the Uncompahgre Nationwide Forest and on Bureau of Land Administration land. The reason for the hearth is unknown.
