In a reply to a query by Shiv Sena-UBT member Anil Desai, Murugan stated the IT Guidelines of 2021 solid particular due diligence obligations on intermediaries to make affordable efforts by themselves towards displaying or spreading obscene or pornographic content material.

“The Ministry of Data and Broadcasting has taken motion in coordination with numerous intermediaries, and blocked 18 OTT platforms on 14th March, 2024 for publishing obscene, vulgar, and, in some cases, pornographic content material underneath these provisions,” Murugan stated.

In a reply to a separate query, Murugan stated the Code of Ethics for digital information publishers requires such publishers to stick to the ‘Norms of Journalistic Conduct’ of the Press Council of India, The Programme Code underneath the Cable Tv (Community Regulation Act, 1995).
